Back in 1918 when the First World War came to a conclusion, the Ottoman Empire was carved out by France and Britain in a manner that the administration of the territories was to be supervised until a structure evolves out of the region that can govern itself.
One such case was of Palestine, whose fate continues to elude billions across the globe. This game is a civilizational game between the West and the Islamic civilization. There is a long history of Jewish displacements, Roman and Arab conquests and Crusades which has haunted the civilizations for centuries now.
Out of the post-World War I order that emerged in West Asia, Jews from across the globe were resettled in Mandatory Palestine. This led to the emergence of an Arabs v Jews conflict in the region, which was seen during the 1936-1939 conflicts across the region. The first form of Resistance to this idea of resettling the West in the region culminated as Muslim Brotherhood. Being a Sunni form of Resistance, it was brought into conflict with the Shia form of Resistance, in a bid to spark sectarian conflicts across the region.
Muslim Brotherhood was dismantled systematically by the West to make sure that no such Resistance gains ground against the interests of the West in the region. However, the 1979 Iranian Revolution changed the political landscapes. The ideological basis of the theocratic regime of Ayatollahs in Tehran is anti-Western and anti-Zionist. The West made sure they divided the Islamic World as a matter of response to the new regime in Iran.
Backed by the Gulf and Arab countries, the West helped Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein wage a 8-year long war with the new regime in Iran. The Islamic Republic of Iran was destabilised since its inception. However, the Palestinian cause and the ideological mission of Shiaite form of Resistance allowed the Ayatollahs to keep pursuing their foreign policy in a manner that sealed the divide between Shias and Sunnis while attempting to fight off the West in a unified manner.
The investments made by Tehran in building 19 forms of proxies to encircle Israel and the US in the region is now bearing fruits for the theocrats in Iran. Israel and the US are being dragged into a War they didn’t choose. The entire “Axis of Resistance”, as is called by the West to define the Iran backed proxies across Iraq, Syria, Lebanon and Yemen is strong, resilient, advanced in their weaponry and ready to take on the West at the time of their reckoning, which is what Hamas has done.
